Sometimes when I say, “I’m in your corner,” people smile and tell me I sound very coachy.
I take that as a compliment.
When I used to tell people I was a personal trainer, I could always feel the shift.
They’d get a little uncomfortable — like they were being judged for not being fit enough, or for eating something they “shouldn’t.”
And honestly, I didn’t like the stereotype that “personal trainer” can represent.
Because fitness, to me, has never been about perfection.
It’s about progress — showing up, learning, and getting stronger from the inside out.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped thinking of myself as a personal trainer and started identifying as a coach.
Everyone loves a coach.
We all have that person — a teacher, mentor, or leader — who believed in us when we didn’t believe in ourselves.
In high school, my classmates would call some of our teachers “Coach,” like it was some sort of secret club.
A coach is a mentor — someone who guides you, supports you, and brings out the best in you.
When I started calling myself a coach, it just felt right — a mentor, a guide, someone who helps you achieve your goals.
That’s something I’ve always been drawn to… maybe because it’s something I found so powerful in my own journey.
And that’s what feels so good about having Santa Cruz Boxing.
Helping others reach their potential, finding confidence, and realizing they’re stronger than they think.
We’re in your corner. ![]()
